Why "Farmers Market Dietitian"?
Okay, so you found me. You might know me from a mutual friend, google search, or farmers market encounter. You might find yourself asking why is she a "farmers market dietitian"? My answer comes in the form of some questions that I have been asking myself ever since I became a registered dietitian:
Why are health and sustainability not more connected? Does it not make more sense to combine human health and the earth's health? For in limiting our carbon emissions and waste we are in turn cultivating a healthy habitat for ourselves. The air we breath and products we come into contact with will all effect our mental and physical health to some extent. Not to mention the availability of land for growing food and filtering fresh water. Let's just say there doesn't seem to be much harm in making healthy choices that happen to keep you alive and your habitat livable.
Essentially, for me, the farmers market is the perfect location for the collision of health and sustainability. It is my mission to facilitate the growth of that connection by connecting farms to those seeking health and connecting those seeking health to farms. So there, that is me in a nutshell (almost).
Other things you should know about me: I grew up on a giant island in the middle of the pacific ocean, studied food and nutrition at colorado state university where I took sustainable agriculture and food preservation classes, and I finished off my studies at Boston University to receive a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition. So with all that under my belt, I became a board certified registered dietitian nutritionist, and am licensed by the state of Massachusetts to provide nutrition counseling. So now my question is why are you on my site? Would you like to learn more about how you can be sustainably-healthy? Want to ask me more questions? I would love to answer any of your nutrition, healthy, sustainability, or farmers market questions alike- just visit my services page or send me an email firstname.lastname@example.org
As a registered dietitian I have a strong background in clinical nutrition. I work with patients who have a large variety of nutrition needs to help them find foods that fit into a balanced diet and merge well with their disease, allergy, or health preference needs. If the food doesn’t work for you, it isn’t going to be a sustainable change. My goal is to use motivational interviewing to assist you with finding the best health choices to help you lead a sustainably happier food life. By being mindful about your choices and food habits, I help clients explore the world of intuitive eating. I have a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition from Boston University and completed my dietetic internship through Beth Israel Deaconess, Needham with rotations at Joslin Diabetes, DaVita Dialysis, and Boston Univeristy Dental School. My experience has provided me extensive experience managing heart healthy diet, appetite, weight management, bowel movement regularity, mindful eating, and nutrient deficiencies. I have a strong belief that nutrition is an empowering tool that can assist you lead a better life.
